All our projects will work in partnership with young people in the local community, Non Government Organisations, Schools and Local Authority Organisations. About the Charity:
Powerful Measures was founded in October 2010 by Elaine Bandele, based in North London, who is passionate about effective long term youth development. Her experiences, knowledge and wisdom to the intrinsic makeup of youth culture led her to focus on creating change from within her community.
Young people make a great impact and unknowingly shape our lives in magnificent ways, however we fall short in allowing young people to know how skilful, talented and important they are to the fabric of our society.
The lack of equal opportunities towards and within youth culture deters and often paralyses young people from making the necessary steps to fulfil their ambitions, or as we know with the young people today, have an ambition at all.
Powerful Measures ethos of community development by the community will bring people of all backgrounds together, and provide a platform from which young people will be acknowledge and uplifted for the contributions they make to our society; whilst securing a prosperous and secure career and future.
From the origins of a passionate idea, the organisations has plans to grow and will build strong working relationships with local partner organisations across the UK, US and Canada to assist in the development of the charitable wing that assists youths in Jamaica. However, our shared focus is to build strong relationships with the BME and UK Jamaican community, business and individuals.
Powerful Measures will be governed by an executive committee –made up of 8 trustees – each with expertise in relevant areas including international development, finance, project management, coaching, marketing, public and media relations, monitoring & evaluation and fundraising. Powerful Measures trustees and volunteers take on a large amount of the organisational workload and as such trustees will share their role with vice trustees and members of a subcommittee made of young professionals and youth within the community.
Nature of Position:
This is an unpaid voluntary role.
The successful candidates should be willing to invest a minimum of 8 hours (on average) each month towards the charity, including a monthly 2-hour trustee meeting held in central London out of working hours.
The ideal candidate will have proven experience, and be fully up to speed with the latest developments in their area of expertise. We also looking for people with the creativity, energy and determination to assist the charity in laying a solid foundation on which to grow and reach its full potential.
The Trustee board have the privilege of assisting in shaping the future of a new, small, visionary organisation that plans to expand greatly within the next three years. Our reputation will grow both in the UK and Jamaica and as such Trustees are preferred to have a great understanding of the British BME community and Jamaican youth. Whether the trustee is of a BME background; have a great understanding of the BME community or have a desire to learn and understand the BME community and its youth culture.
This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your personal and professional life; each candidate will be immersed in all aspects of governing and developing a small charity, and will have the opportunity to visit Powerful Measures projects in Jamaica.
